Newbie questions.

Hoping someone can help with a couple of newbie questions.

Basically I'm interested in doing the AFF course. Is the certification for completing the course valid in other counties? (usa particularly?).

Once you have completed the AFF & consolidation jumps how does it well... work if you want to 'jump' again? (damn I really sound clueless).  As in do you hire chutes or have to buy your own? Is it possible to do multiple jumps in a day? How does it work with chute repacking? I only ask as its a bit of a trek to get there particularly if you can only jump once a day. What sort of costs are involved?

Thanks for any help on this. It sounds like people get the bug after trying it once so it would be good to get an idea what I might be getting in to. :)

Thanks.

Hello Nick!Yes, once you are qualified in the UK, you can jump anywhere in the world. It's not always the same the other way round though.  Once you're qualified, you can either hire kit or buy your own. Most newbies jump hire kit for a while for initial downsizing of canopies and then buy their own when they get to a suitable sized canopy for buying. Jumps are normally priced at 20quid at Weston but more for kit hire. All the info on prices is on the Weston part of the UK Skydiver website. Take a look. You can either pack your own canopy (once you're signed off) or you can pay a packer (5quid). Kit hire sometimes includes pack job.  You can jump as many times in a weekend as your wallet will allow! Hiring kit slows things down sometimes but when you're still new, anything more than 3 or so jumps a day will be quite tiring so good to take it slowly initially. Hey, why not pop up to Weston and meet some of the AFF instructors. They're a very friendly bunch and will tell you all you need to know. You can also speak to Ash/Steve who own/run the DZ and are fonts of all knowledge. Incidentally, if you come up this weekend, we're having our summer ball. It's 15quid a ticket. Why not come up, meet some people, find out lots about jumping, have a few drinks and generally find out what a nice (um, and drunken) bunch we are.   Becs
