First Tandem 25th August

Anonymous's picture

Hey everybody,

I am just writing to say that I've got a forthcoming tandem jump booked for 25th August... I've been watching some vids on youtube of weston, I am so excited and pumped about doing it, I just want to do it now!! so impatient. I just hope the weather holds out. The thing that concerns me is that I might like it too much and as I live in Bicester may become an expensive hobby. If I do enjoy it I'll probably book a full AFF course for next year.

So the questions I am really looking to have answered are:
A) Is there anything that I should know before I jump?
B) At what point is it decided that the weather is too bad to jump?
C) What happens if the jump is called off?
D) Is it an expensive hobby? Is the kit expensive, does it require membership at the club?

Many Thanks
Martyn

Hi Martyn,

Hope these answers help!
A) Is there anything that I should know before I jump?
yep, youre gonna love it
B) At what point is it decided that the weather is too bad to jump?
on the day usually unless the weatherman is predicting hurricanes!!!
C) What happens if the jump is called off?
You simply book another weekend
D) Is it an expensive hobby? Is the kit expensive, does it require membership at the club?
Once youve learnt and have the kit it is a relatively cheap sport. To get you through the AFF course and consolidations plus a few extra jumps to qualify you will spend around ?1800. Equipment can cost as little as ?1500 to ?4000 brand new. Jumps once qualified are ?20 to 13,000ft. You will need to become a member of our club and the British Parachute Association, cost ?180. We have equipment here that you can hire for ?20 per day
Hope this all helps

Sounds good, I have had a very kind offer from Etch to come up this weekend to see what its all about etc...

I've already been checking out the weather forecasts for next weekend and at the mo its saying that the 25th will be a touch cloudy but dry, so figers crossed, maybe it'll change before then, so who knows...

Thanks for the info,

martyn

It does change on a daily basis, both weather.co.uk and metcheck.com do long range forecasts, Metcheck today says it's going to now be sunny on the 25th with 2-3% cloud cover, so hopefully its looking like it might be nice, will be checking the forecasts daily until I do my jump. I'm so pumped about doing it I'l be disappointed if I have to come back another day.
